Slovenia is a year-round destination. You can do it is winter season for skiing and other sports, you can so it ins summer and shoulder seasons for hiking, kayaking and just to enjoy the vivid and abundant nature that Slovenia has. When we visited we had the pleasure to see a lot of flowers in bloom, which was amazing as different places had a different smells: jasmine, linden, elder, oleander.
Description
Slovenia a nature packed country with: sharp mountain peaks, lakes to see through, canyons with vertical walls, blue - icecream rivers, waterfalls all shape and sizes, caves to let the eyes get used to the beauty, seaside charming small towns and a capital that you want to move to right away. And all this in a country so small you barely see on the map. Highlight of the trip: Bled and Bohinj Lakes, Mostnica Canyon and Waterfall, Vršič Mountain Pass, Tolmin Canyon, cities of Koper, Piran, Ptuj, Maribor and Ljubljana. This is a 6 days itinerary that can be the base for any trip to Slovenia. I would not recommend to do it in less that 6 days unless you want to give up some parts (like the seaside). But you can extend you trip with hiking days and discovering places that we misses. We would have liked to visit also: Vintgar Gorge (but it was close due to some heavy raining that brought boulders and destroyed some parts of the bridge), Boka waterfall and Kozjak (but it was raining that day and we couldn't stop), go with the chair lift to Kanin (it was closed - it was between seasons winter/summer), Pokljuka Gorge (we had to decide between Pokljuka and Mostnica).

Not really a border. Don't forget to buy vignette for Slovenia. It costs 15 Euro for 7 days. Try buying the vignette at the gas station or buy it online. Because it has to be attached on the windshield, you have to receive it in the mail, so buy it in advance.
Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia. It is a charming little town with a great pedestrian city center. It was our first meeting with Slovenia (first stop) and we like it.
Right near from where you buy tickets there is a special exhibition of costumes and customs from all around Slovenia. Kids will love this. The banding bear the singing goat, the devil the chase the winter away and many other fictional characters

The price is 15 Euro for one hour - which is more than enough. This boat ride is a great experience as you see the fish through the transpsorent lake. We also saw a mother duck with 10 ducklings.
Park the boat in the special place. Make sure you know what number is the boat as the guy from the rental told us he espects to bring back the same boat.
Bled island (Blejski otok) is a very small island, but you have to climg around 100 stairs to get to the top. This is the only island in Slovenia, which is kind of funny - small country , small island, but no matter the size amazingly beautiful. On the top of the island there is a church , a tower, a souvenir shop and a coffee shop. There were some jasmine and elder trees in bloom on the top of the island.
This is a great road through the forest. But be careful this has only one lane for both directions.
