We did this trip in the beginning of June, more exactly 4-13 June. It can still get pretty hot in places like Agrigento, but the sea temperature is not yet warm enough for bathing. We found some beaches both in south and north side of the island where it was ok-ish to take a dip.
This itinerary is a tour on the Sicily Island on the coastal road. The 9 days itinerary takes you as follows: day 1: arrive in Palermo Airport and visit Trapani; day 2: visit Favignana Island; day 3: Salt Museum, Mazara Del Vallo, Scala dei Turchi, Porto Empedocle; day 4: visit Agrigento and Modica; day 5: Pools and waterfalls at Cavagrande; day 6: visit Syracuse and Catania; day 7: visit Etna Volcano and Gole Alcantara; Day 8: visit Taormina; Day 9: visit Cefalu and Palermo; Day 10: Palermo Airport.
Itinerary start at Palermo Airport (Sicily)
There 2 main airports in Sicily: Palermo Airport and Catania Airport. Actually the one in Catania is the big one, but it was close to Etna Volcano and I wanted to avoid the risk of not being able to land because of the smoke (you can tell I'm a little bit scared of being on an island with an active volcano). So we decided to arrive in Palermo Airport. I also like that it is smaller and everything is a lot closer and easy to achieve.
We rented a Fiat 500. It's like the say: When in Italy, do what Italians do, and we did. It is the best car for this island, small, but it will get you anywhere you want. We had no problems going 1/3 on Etna (as long as it is paved road), we squeezed on the narrow streets, and we had more parking options. Very important, make sure you have air conditioning. Even in June you have to have it. We decided to skip Palermo for now and visit the city on our return. So the sea awaits.
In translation it means the fish market, which was the purpose of this square near the sea,but not it is a glamorous place, nothing is reminding about the fishy past, except the fountain in the center.
